To: All Members of City
Council
I wish to advise you that this afternoon at 1:00p.m., the Insect
Control Branch will issue a 48-hour public notice that an Adult Nuisance
Mosquito Fogging Program for the entire city will begin effective Friday
June 23, 2006 at 10:00 pm.
The city-wide average trap counts for the past three nights have been
26, 196 and 88. Therefore, there have now been 3 consecutive nights
where the city-wide average trap count has exceeded 25. Over the
past
week, trap counts have exceeded 100 in various quadrants throughout the
City. Today the trap count in the Southeast quadrant is 123; and
90 in
the Northwest quadrant.
The AFA has also moved from Medium to High. This is based on the
fact
that there is a high population of adult mosquitoes as well as other
conditions that indicate a continued emergence of adult mosquitoes. This
change is based on a current analysis of the AFA factors, which includes
trap counts.
This nuisance mosquito fogging program will be carried out in the entire
City (buffer zones respected), prioritizing first for areas with highest
nuisance mosquito populations. Weather permitting, the adult nuisance
mosquito fogging program will begin in city parks, cemeteries and
residential areas. Friday morning, June 23, a Public Service
Announcement will issued to advise which residential areas, based on the
current surveillance data, will be fogged Friday evening.
Additional details are provided in the attached press release for your
information.
